Parents often think of occupational therapy as helping children with fine motor skills, handwriting, or daily activities, but pediatric OT can also support many of the skills children with ADHD use throughout the day.

RSI Occupational Therapist Brian Kingsford, BS, OTR/L, explains:

Occupational Therapy is very beneficial to the support of a child who has ADHD. Not only does OT directly work on strategies to help a child with the necessary focus, attention, and organization for skill development, but it also helps a child with coping, sensory, and self-regulatory skills that are needed when dealing with the effects of ADHD.”

For children with ADHD, occupational therapy may address areas such as attention, organization, sensory processing, emotional and self-regulation skills, and strategies for completing everyday tasks. Treatment is individualized based on the child’s specific needs and goals.
