October 1st marks the beginning of Down Syndrome Awareness Month!
Some of our favorite people in the world are those who rock an extra 21st chromosome. We are honored to get to be their friends.
To help bring awareness, we wanted to share some myths vs facts from the Down Syndrome Association:
Myth: Down syndrome is rare.
Fact: Down syndrome is the most common genetic condition in the world.
Myth: People with Down syndrome are always happy.
Fact: People with Down syndrome experience a range of emotions, just like everyone else.
Myth: People with Down syndrome can’t work.
Fact: People with Down syndrome can work in a variety of jobs, including offices, hospitals, and restaurants.
Myth: Down syndrome is hereditary.
Fact: Only about one percent of cases of Down syndrome are hereditary.
