It’s a rare day when one of our RSI pediatric occupational or physical therapists don’t include at least a few minutes of swinging in their therapy sessions with their young patients. Between our pod swings, saucer swings, rope swings, stretchy swings, bolster (log) swings, and disk swings–to name just a few–the therapeutic benefits are endless, and best of all, camouflaged as play.
Here are just a few:
-Strengthens core, leg, arm, finger, and hand muscles.
-Develops coordination between muscles groups
-Calms nerves and anxiety
-Strengthens sense of balance (both vestibular and muscular)
–Assists in sensory avoidance and sensory seeking therapy
-Develops spatial awareness skills
-Stimulates development and creativity within the brain
